Mob drop crafting floor

The crafting part of our mob farm: it sorts mixed mob drops and crafts them by itself, with crafters, into bone meal, white wool, paper and flight-duration 3 rockets.

How it works

  • Mob drops come in through one hopper and run along a hopper line. Item filters along the line pull out gunpowder, bones and string; everything else (arrows, rotten flesh, spider eyes) goes on to an overflow chest.
  • Bones go to a crafter with one slot open, so every bone becomes bone meal. String goes to a crafter with four slots open in a square, which turns it into white wool.
  • Four sugar cane plants with pistons feed a third crafter that makes paper.
  • The rocket module waits until it has 3 gunpowder and 1 paper, then crafts one rocket. Its gunpowder taps only refill when their dropper runs empty, so the gunpowder is shared instead of all going to the first tap.
  • Each crafter has a gate hopper and a stop lever. While a crafter is half full it must not fire, or it crafts the wrong thing (in testing, loose sugar cane turned into sugar and jammed the rockets).

Building it

Positions are counted from the corner of the schematic (x, y, z as Litematica shows them for the file).

  1. Put it under your mob farm's collection. The input is the hopper at x 20, y 13, z 21: send the farm's drops into it.
  2. Keep the mob farm switched off while you build, so no drops get into empty filters.
  3. Fill the three filter hoppers with 18 of their item plus one each of cobblestone, dirt, glass and oak planks: gunpowder at x 24, y 12, z 21, bones at x 36, y 12, z 21, string at x 48, y 12, z 21.
  4. Set the crafter slots (slot 1 is the top left, counting along each row). Bone meal crafter at x 36, y 8, z 21: slot 1 only. Wool crafter at x 48, y 8, z 21: slots 1, 2, 4 and 5. Paper crafter at x 18, y 7, z 20: slots 4, 5 and 6. Rocket crafter at x 20, y 1, z 14: slots 1 to 4. Every other slot disabled.
  5. Put 3 stacks of cobblestone in each gate hopper (x 34, y 8, z 22; x 46, y 8, z 22; x 16, y 7, z 21), then switch the three stop levers off (they are built on, which means stopped).
  6. Place four hopper minecarts on the rails at x 4, 6, 8 and 10 (y 9, z 20), and put two stacks of cobblestone in the piston clock's hopper at x 2, y 12, z 12.
  7. Press the rocket module's start button at x 23, y 1, z 26 once, then switch the mob farm on.
  8. Output: bone meal in the barrel at x 38, y 7, z 21, wool at x 50, y 7, z 21, rockets at x 20, y 0, z 14, overflow in the chest at x 50, y 12, z 21.
  9. If the rocket crafter ever holds a wrong item, empty it completely; it only works from empty.

Emma's results

  • A mixed test load (bones, string, gunpowder, arrows, rotten flesh, spider eyes and 96 sugar cane) came out as 288 bone meal, 32 white wool and 57 rockets, with the junk in the overflow chest and no jams.
  • Emma built it under her mob tower; in 40 minutes it made 639 bone meal and 46 white wool, plus rockets once the rocket crafter was cleared. Paper (four cane plants) is what limits the rockets.

From our test server runs on Minecraft 26.1.2.
